Crappy Comcast Cable/DVR Service Strikes Again

A few weekends ago, SyFy Channel was replaying it’s Tin Man mini-series, based on the Wizard of Oz. This was a total of three, two-hour episodes. I was doing some other work at the time with this playing in the background. I didn’t realize that it was six hours, until the third episode started. With a little over an hour left, I ended up recording the last portion of the episode on the Comcast DVR so that I could do something else.

Lost…again

So, we recently looked at the DVR’s playlist, and decided to start watching ABC’s latest season of “Lost”. We made it through the “recap” episode, then started the first episode for the season.

I used to be a big fan of Lost. Then, it grew tiresome. Keeping track of all the little stories, the mysteries, big and small, and there comes a time where you tire of the seemingly bottomless pit from which questions come from, but to which you may, or may not, get any answers. Just like with “X-Files”, I felt we were being strung along for no good reason. I’m looking for answers. Closure. Will we ever get there?

A few weeks ago, I was cleaning up files off my harddisk, and came across this image that I had created, from the first or second season of “Lost,” if memory serves me.

Shark Tatoo

The picture is of the underbelly of  a shark. I superimposed a picture of some other Dharma Initiative supplied items in order to compare to the shark’s tatoo that I had spotted.

My question–was this little puzzle ever addressed? How did the shark get this tatoo, logo, brand…what does it mean? Does anyone have an answer? I found one website that says this was an “inside joke.” Don’t tell me that…because with all the other f’d up stuff that goes on, how are we to know what is real? Ok, I know it’s just TV…but, you get what I mean.  😉

Idol Banter

OMG! Why Tatiana Del Toro? While I do believe she has a great singing voice, her personality completely overshadows her singing ability and makes her the most despicable contestant–I guess we need a bit of drama on American Idol. Just like Joel Rush on True Beauty…his personality was one of the worst, but his looks more than made up for it–woof! Why wouldn’t Tatiana’s voice do for her, what Joel’s looks did for him? I suppose I’m just more of a visual person.  😉

Oh, and WTF is up with all the American Idol contestants complete and utter overuse of “fun?” Seriously, can they not come up with some other word or phrase to describe their lackluster song choices and under-performances? “I had so much fun”…”yeah, I can’t sing, but I had fun”…”I just wanted to have fun”… gawd, I think I just threw up a little.

MOVIE: Happenstance

This movie is 9 years old, released in 2000. It’s been in our Netflix queue for maybe a year, pushed to the bottom of the list by new releases, a multitude of action flicks, and an overabundance of other foreign movies on the list. Subtitled movies aren’t convenient for everyday viewing, since you really have to pay attention. But finally, this little gem made its way to our mailbox from the Netflix distribution center.

If you like movies that feature intersecting micro-stories, Happenstance will not disappoint. This romantic flick follows two would-be lovers from a chance encounter on a crowded subway through the lives of all those that come between them. The stories range from the cockroach that travels across town to become an instrument of revenge, to the harmless coffeemaker whose theft manages to thwart the reunion of long-lost lovers.

While subtitled, the translations persist on-screen long enough for you to watch the on-screen action, while not missing any important dialog. If you haven’t seen this yet, it is a treat. Netflix offers this movie in DVD and streaming formats.
