Power Outage Cripples Lenox Road

I was aghast that I didn’t see anything on the news about this, so I’m going to play news reporter… šŸ™‚

Around 7:15PM Saturday evening, September 26th, 2009, a falling tree took out power lines along Lenox Road, near the prestigious Buckhead condominium neighborhood, Lenox Heights. One resident reported hearing a loud crash and witnessing sparks flying as the tree crashed, bringing down at least one power pole and turning Lenox Road into a dark, one mile stretch of road, reaching from the condo community towards Lenox Mall, reaching as far as the Metropolitan.

Babes for Boobies, Prada’s Birthday Pawty

On Saturday, August 1st, we are celebrating Prada’s Birthday. Prada is Truffles’ BFF, in case you have not been keeping up. The celebration will be at The Grove, located at the intersection of Lavista Road and Oak Grove Road.

This will also be a fund raising event for the Babes for Boobies team. The team is raising money for the upcoming Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for a Cure event. The fund raising event is from 3PM to 6PM on Saturday, August 1st.

What happened to the home page?

You may have noticed…that our blog has moved to blog.davidandkevin.com. Since we’ve officially launched a small business of website hosting, design, and domain name registration, it was time to make it the “first” site for visitors. There are some small disruptions to the move that I still have to work on, but they are minor glitches…some links not working, images not showing up. I can fix it, I just need to dedicate some time to it.

I’ve got a car warranty for you…

If you’ve been receiving phone calls from some frigging telemarketing firm about a car warranty..rejoice! The FTC is finally after them, and the call that I received yesterday to renew my car warranty may have been the final one!

ARS Technica reports in an article that the FTC has been collecting evidence against the companies involved, and has finally filed suit for a restaining order and freeze of assets. While we’re sure that the companies involved have made tons of money, I know I’ll be happy to see those phone calls to my cellphone finally go away.

Where’s David?

I’ve been busy lately with Truffles–her social calendar has been keeping us very busy every weekend. Parades, doggie meet-ups, birthday parties…the dog is keeping us busier than soccer moms! There’s another doggie event this Saturday, where we take her to see her doggie mama and the breeder that helped her into this world.

Of course, I have to make tons of pictures from each event, and it takes time for me to process them and pick out the best ones. But soon, I should have more photos from the latest events.

I know the photo of the week section has stalled a bit–I’ll see if I can find some time to get that updated…or renamed to something like photo-of-the-month…quarter…whatever. šŸ™‚ I do have lots of pictures (last count was somewhere around 20,000….

EDIT-5/16/09: Today’s doggie event was cancelled, due to weather–rescheduled for two weeks.

Doggies and Boobies… Oh My!

Get your checkbooks out—pleeeze!

The Atlanta Pet Parade, which benefits the Atlanta Humane Society, is on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009. Check out their website for more information on joining the festivities.

There’s also a pre-walk social event at Hotel Indigo on Wednesday, April 1st. You’ve got to be there! Truffles wanted to attend the event last year, but was too young for the first events, and the final Hotel Indigo event of the year was rained out…she was so upset. šŸ™ But this year, her cocktail dress is ready to be shown!!! Other doggies: beware!

The Atlanta Humane Society is continuing their awesome All Pets Allowed Calendar! For a tiny fee of $35 and a photo, your pet is GUARANTEED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE CALENDAR! Granted, yers has to be a special pet to make the monthly calendar photo, and Truffles is looking to dominate more than oneĀ month’s centerfold (you know, Chihuahuas desireĀ World Domination), but your pet’s pic can still be part of this memorable calendar (please ignore Truffles’ trash talk). Katie (our awesome Lab-Pit mix doggie), and Kricket (our cutie-pa-tootie kitty-kat) have been in previous calendars, and Truffles WILL be in next years. Will your pet be part of this calendar, too?

Babes for Boobies! Woo-Woo! Ok, maybe boobies are not our “cup of tea” but what a tremendous undertaking for the fight against breast cancer! Donations benefit the Susan G Komen For the Cure foundation. Please make your contributions to our dear friends Maria and Heather’s team, Babes for Boobies, who are set on raising $6000 for the 3-day walk.Ā

Don’t forget to check with your company’s policies for matching contributions! You’ll need to send your matching contribution document to Babes for BoobiesĀ so they get credit for those matching gifts! David and KevinĀ have donatedĀ $100 towards this, and Macy’s matching contribution should account for another $100–WAY TO GO!

Netflix to offer DVD-less, streaming-only subscription

ARS Technica reports that Netflix is planning on offering a streaming-only subscription option–doing away with DVDs.

Expanding subscription options is a great idea, but are Netflix’s customers ready to ditch DVDs? Can all of Netflix’s customers get access to all video streams? Sony is shamefully leaving PS3 owners in the lurch when it comes to Netflix’s video streaming options, and keeping Xbox 360 owners from viewing Sony titles.

Just say “NO!” …to Internet Explorer 6

Are you still using Internet Explorer 6? Why?

IE6 was released in 2001. It’s obsolete already! Some people don’t drive the same car for that long! MostĀ don’t wear the same underwear as they did 8 years ago. They may not even use the same computer for that long.

Why are you hanging on to IE6 then?

I’m in the midst of updating site layout, and having to deal with IE6 is a pain. Too many quirks/bugs/whatever. You’ll find that folks around the world are campaigning for IE6 users to switch. There’s even a Facebook group.

Please upgrade! Go with IE 7 (which has already been around since 2006), or check out Firefox (my favorite). Take the plunge and try on a new browser! You’ll look fabulous!
